The members of the firm consider it a privilege to practice law in this community. As such, a privilege must be earned. An essential element of the privilege of practicing law is Community Involvement. Homesley, Goodman & Wingo, PLLC takes seriously its obligation to the community.

The firm sponsors the annual "Blues & Burritos". This event features a performance by Rusty Barkley and the Part-Time Blues Band (www.parttimebluesband.com/links.htm) on the front porch of the office. Burritos are served by Pueblo Grande, a local restaurant. Everyone's favorite beverages from Carolina Beer & Beverage ( www.carolinablonde.com ) are also served. This event has generated substantial donations, now in excess of $20,000.00 for the benefit of organizations such as:

Friends of the Library
American Red Cross
The Dove House
Mooresville Christian Mission
HealthReach Community Clinic

Members of the firm have been leaders with Friends of the Library.  Fariba Homesley, wife of Cliff Homesley, served as the chairperson of this group which is "dedicated to the expansion of a downtown library, accessible to children and adults of all walks of life." Fariba was instrumental in convincing Lowe's Companies (www.lowes.com) to contribute $2,000,000 towards the expansion of the Mooresville Public Library (www.ci.mooresville.nc.us/library/). The expansion to a 34,000 square foot state of the art facility has been completed.  Friends of the Library also raised an additional $50,000 in its efforts to prompt the expansion of the downtown library.  The firm also has hosted events for the annual Library Day. Click here to view a slide show of Library Day.

The firm also sponsors gospel sings on the front porch. These are traditionally held in the summer. This is an opportunity for the community to gather and to celebrate its spirituality. The Isaac Harris House has also hosted a National Day of Prayer community-wide celebration. The firm has provided financial support of the monthly "Jamboree" musical performances that are held at the Mooresville Citizens Center.

The firm has contributed to events as diverse as a biathlon in support of greenways in Mooresville, a literacy road race, DARE, Hope at the Point, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and to Martin Luther King birthday breakfasts sponsored by the South Iredell NAACP.

The firm has provided pro bono services in assisting citizens in a variety of areas as those citizens fight battles for justice in the face of powerful forces, particularly government.  Client confidentiality prevents the disclosure of the specifics of these matters.

Andrew Wingo has been very active with the Mooresville Jaycees and Mooresville Optimist Club. Both organizations are dedicated to raising donations for local charities including the March of Dimes and the American Red Cross. Andrew has also been involved with fundraising efforts for the United Way.

Nancy Goodman volunteered for a free, needs-based legal services agency from 1997 to 1999. She is now an active volunteer and board member with The Dove House, which provides services to sexually abused children.

Ronnie Crisco is a member of the board of directors for Iredell County S.C.A.N. (Stop Child Abuse Now), which provides parenting classes, family counseling and outreach, and supervised visitation facilities to children and families in need throughout Iredell County.  Ronnie is also the founder and coach of the Mooresville Senior High School Mock Trial Team, which teaches critical thinking skills and legal principles to student competitors.  The team competes each spring against other area high schools and in 2008 reached the North Carolina state finals.

Laura Temple is the President of the Mooresville Friends of the Library. She is also a member of the Lake Norman Homebuilders Association and the Women's Council of the Lake Norman Homebuilders Association. When not involved in these activities Laura devotes her time to being the Presenter for the First-time Homebuyer Class for the Community Housing Development Corp. of Mooresville/South Iredell.

The firm also believes in participation in the political process. The firm is constantly looking for methods by which it can encourage citizens and political leaders to come together to examine and deal with the important issues of the day. The firm has provided a community venue for political discussions for people from a wide range of political viewpoints. Both presidential candidate John Edwards and former Charlotte Mayor Richard Vinroot have appeared at political events at the historic Isaac Harris House.

Proud member of the
